How do you get ride of gnats?

In my apartment I have noticed that there are always a few gnats flying around everywhere and I don't understand why. Any ideas where they are coming from and any ideas on how to get rid of them. How do you get ride of gnats?
Most likely, they're there because it's that time of year. You don't see them most of the summer, then BOOM! Fall arrives, you open your windows, and they're everywhere you look.

Try putting out a small dish of apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish liquid in it. Make sure you stir it with either a spoon, or even your finger. They love the smell of it, and will fall in when trying to sip from it. The soap covers their wings, and makes them too sticky to fly away, so they end up drowning in it. Replace it every couple of days until you notice that they're gone, or until you close up the windows for winter.

Don't forget to remove the trash frequently, and clean up any fruits or vegetables that may be lying around. Also, check your potatoes for any rotting ones...They may be attracted to something like that.

take water put apple cider vinegar in it and put a couple drops dish washing liquid in it this will get rid of nats that get around fruit, amounts about 1/4 c water and vinegar and a few drops detergent-- i would also do the bleach thing for the drains too or vinegar down the drains should work too -- i've done the water/vinegar/detergent and it works great
If you have indoor plants, they like the damp soil. I had them around the kitchen sink and it was driving me nuts. I just started spraying around the drain with flying insect spray and finally got rid of them. Did this in the bathrooms also and the drain in the basement. I tried the vinegar and water trick and it didn't work for me.

Go to ehow.com and type in how to get rid of gnats and they have a remedy
There are several things you need to make sure you do. Clean your trashcan, pour some bleach down every drain in the apartment, and make sure there is no food out on the counters including fruit in baskets.
