How do you get ride of the smell of cigarettes?

My school gives us special backpacks to carry our laptops around in. Mine broke the zipper broke off so it wouldnt close. Those they gave me a replacment packback that smells like cigarettes. I know what DlCKS! So how do i get ride of the smell.How do you get ride of the smell of cigarettes?

If the backpack can be washed, wash it in hot water with white vinegar or with Tide with Febreeze. You could also leave an open container of coffee grounds inside the pack for a couple of days. A wadded up newspaper left inside for a few days might also help draw out the odor.

The stench is caused by the tar in cig. smoke....The pack should be washable. Next time you do a load of Towells, toss the pack in with them and add about a half cup of Iodized salt. Use the regular amount of laundry soap for the size of the load, make sure you use warm or hot water.


when you toss everything in the dryer, use medium or even the LOW setting for the backpack, as there is no way to tell wether or not the nylon fabric will survive the heat of the high setting. Use the timed dry functin, set for one hour...kepp it up til it's dry.
Febreeze works very well. Also you could wash it in Tide with Febreeze, and use Clorox 2 bleach, and Downey Fabric Softener and that should take care of it.
